While it may seem like some people must be able to stop time to do everything they do, the truth is they manage their time differently. Some people seem to be able to get more done in less time. You may wonder how while they wonder why it takes you so long to do something. This is largely a difference in your time management techniques.
What is your schedule?
Having a schedule can help keep you on track. By knowing what you need to do and in what order you are less likely to get sidetracked. You also do not have to worry as much about forgetting certain activities or chores.
How is your to-do list?
Some people start each morning by writing a to-do list. Then they go through the list and do the things that must be done. Like the scheduling it also helps you remember what all must be done. You can do this on a weekly basis as well.
Where is your focus?
You may have trouble with time management techniques if you can not focus on the things you need to be doing. Find a way to focus on what it is you need to do. Try to reduce or eliminate distractions to help you focus on what needs to be done.
When do you need it done?
Perhaps a time management technique that may work would be focusing on the end. Almost every project has a deadline, set by someone else or self-imposed. Once you get the deadline, then work out backwards until you are at the halfway point of time. Then where you need to be in half of that time. If you work toward achieving those goal points then you will reach the end goal date.
Are you managing your stress levels?
Your stress levels may actually block you from reaching your goals. Instead of doing as much as you think you are mind and your body may slow you. Also thinking about all you must do each day will actually be a distraction than keep you on target. Relax, take deep breaths and focus on one thing at a time.
Do you multi-task?
It has been proven in scientific studies that multi-tasking actually slows down your progress. While you may be able to wash clothes while fixing dinner, you are able to because you do one task then switch back to the other. You need to focus rather than try to clean house, help the children with their homework and play with the dog, focus on each item in turn. Do one for a while then switch to the next.
These time management techniques will help you get more done in less time.
